The Daring Few

To all those who dive,

may all your dives be safe.

To those who have sadly left us,

may all your dives be long and breath taking.

For those who don't dive,

you'll never fully know or understand what us crazy buggers are on about.

Far beneath the ground,

In a world that few will know.

Lies wonder and amazing sights,

That lures the daring few.

They come with lights,

And Cameras too.

Be it open,

Or be it closed circuit.

The daring few,

Adventurers,

Explorers of the dark.

It started out,

Back in the 50’s,

When a Frenchman unlocked a key.

The key, it opened many locks,

To underwater adventures.

But a daring few,

Probed the dark,

Of the caves they found.

Some found adventure,

Some found life,

And some did meet their maker.

As the years blew on,

The techies made it better.

They took it further,

Shocked us all,

And some did foot the bill.

It went to twins,

Took to stages,

With a shocking bunch of deco.

Some got bent,

Some got rich,

And others lots of memories.

Then onto computers,

With some sidemounts,

Throw in a habitat too.

Some truly groundbreaking stuff,

And many survived it all.

The daring few,

Blazing into virgin cave.

Laying line,

Surveying passage,

In a world that few will know.

Leaving only bubbles,

And a little bit of silt.

Taking only pictures,

And a tank load worth of memories.

These are the ways of the daring few,

May all their dives be safe.
