Daddy's Princess (Daddy Daddy)
Daddy Daddy,
What is that,
Why is that scar upon your knee?
Her blue eyes,
Reflecting her innocence and love for me.
She knows not the panic,
That she is causing me.
How do I answer,
My little girl,
Be truth or untruth I know not.
Do I tell her a fallacy?
That Daddy fought a sea monster,
And saved a damsel in distress.
To make her swell with pride,
That Daddy is strong and gentle,
And to question not for a while.
Or tell I her the truth,
Whilst she may not understand.
That when Daddy was sad or upset,
He used a knife and cut himself,
Just to watch the blood trickle out,
And the pain follow its lead.
Forever worried,
She would do as Daddy did and does,
And scar her beauty with reminders of pain past.
I smile and give my girl a hug,
And carefully brush it off.
I love her dear,
And will not tell,
That is the depth of love for her.
One day she will know,
But today she is still Daddy’s princess.
And princesses need not see,
The pain that others bear.
